Basic Alphabet - Consonants

Below are the consonants of the basic alphabet Kryptonian alphabetical order. When all the letters are listed, it is common to see the vowels coming either before or after the consonants, or, just as frequently, coming in-between /m/ and /n/.

Most of the Kryptonian letters were taken from the Vath alphabet. These symbols started as pictograms, before becoming ideographs, and then finally alphabetic characters. Val-Zho, needing more symbols than were present in Vath, did add several characters that he made to resemble the existing ones. Most notable of these additions is the first letter in the alphabet (s).

The Consonants

 Kryptonese: /s/ The first letter of the Kryptonian alphabet was made to resemble the symbol for hope (ç); this was done to symbolize the hope that the new planetary government was supposed to bring. Over time, this letter became interchangeable with the ideograph upon which it was based.
